Today’s education is the future investment. Everything is changing rapidly and becoming global. This means that the students of today must be more adaptive. The course in Innovation, future educational aspect and creativity provides an understanding of how the participants can benefit and become successful in their careers.

The course has four modules. These are a combination of lectures, interactive session, group work.

2. Innovation

a. The unknown is an opportunity for ideas (risk vs inventive steps).

b. Present the idea and innovation in a context so it makes sense.

a. The knowledge is the motor – this gives you the push forward.

b. Learn to learn – how you stay competitive.

4. Networks and communities

a. The network is your future opportunity.

b. Sharing information is an investment.

c. Leadership by initiatives and collaboration.

Instructors:

Dr Mikael Syväjärvi is a researcher in advanced materials since 1995, entrepreneur since 2005 with start-ups and technology transfer. He has experience from Swedish national innovation programmes and regional development in European context. He is active in training and courses for research to business, competence building for research and student careers, and sharing knowledge to the youth. He is founder of Alminica AB that is active in innovation services, director at ICM Research Institute, Visiting Professor of Advanced Industrial Materials Innovation at University of Lincoln (UK), Research and Innovation Coordinator at Institute of Advanced Materials, Innovation advisor at Young Professionals Society (UK), and core member in International Association of Advanced Materials that has more than 83’000 members from 139 countries.

Dr Nasar Ali is a scientist, entrepreneur and a mentor. He is the founder of NANOSMAT (Est. 2005) and has held the post of a senior scientific at CNC Coatings Company based in Rochdale, UK. Dr Ali served as a faculty member at the University of Aveiro in Portugal, where he founded and led the Surface Engineering and Nanotechnology (SENT) Group. Dr Ali has extensive experience in hard carbon-coating materials, including nano-sized diamond coatings and carbon nanotubes deposited using CVD technologies. He has more than 120 international peer reviewed research publications, including many book chapters. He’s served as a fellow of the Institute of Nanotechnology (IoN). Dr Ali has authored one book (2 dimensional nanostructures, CRC Press) and edited many books and handbooks on nanomaterials, surface coatings, thin films and nanotechnology for leading publishers, including the 6 volume handbook on GRAPHENE SCIENCE HANDBOOK (CRC Press) and the 6 volume handbook of MODERN COATING TECHNOLOGIES (Elsevier). He was also the founder of the Journal of Nano Research (Trans Tech Publishers, Switzerland). Dr Ali was the recipient of the prestigious Bunshah Prize at ICMCTF-2002 conference in San Diego, USA for his work on developing time modulated CVD of carbon based materials. In 2019, Dr N Ali set up the Young Professionals Society (YPS) to help young people and professionals with personal and professional development (PPD). YPS focuses on three main areas: leadership, innovation, and communication. Within YPS, Dr Ali heads the Institute for Personal and Professional Development (IPPD) which is designed to provide training courses to mainly young people with soft skills and leadership development. Dr Ali chairs the international YPS Leaders Conference. Dr Ali is very passionate about empowering the youth with key life changing skills so that they can go on to achieve their goals and become the future global leaders in their own chosen fields and become the representatives on their communities.
